Good dogs needing good homes!

A couple more really wonderful dogs looking for retirement homes! These dogs are in the midwest but the owner will transport to the perfect home. Both are neutered, totally up to date on shots, and have been thoroughly health checked.

The following descriptions are from the current owner and are quite comprehensive. They should answer any questions you have. You will be able to tell from the descriptions that these dogs are dearly loved and have been incredibly well cared for. It has been an excruciating decision for the owner to let them go, so please inquire only after you have read their descriptions and are seriously interested. She would love to place them together but will separate them if necessary.

Write me at sharyn@timbreblue.com for the owner's contact information. She can provide photos and more information.

Boy #1

The first boy is blue with white markings, 8 1/2 years old. He's 41 pounds and on the large end of male whippets, solidly built. He is very friendly and has never met a stranger. He generally gets along well with other dogs, is highly intelligent and inquisitive. He is not a dog that enjoys a lot of fawning attention and kissing but likes to be near me and follows me all over the house and enjoys a good body rub. He doesn’t want to miss a thing and is always up for playing, walking or something new. He is obedience trained.

He is currently being fed Pro-Plan light with some raw feeding at night. He also receives Duralactin and Omega-3 supplements as well as glucosamine for his muscles. He is also on monthly heartworm (Heartgard Plus) and flea/tick (Frontline Plus). He has his teeth brushed every week and his nails dremmeled to keep them short.  He is given treats (a lot) and rawhides to chew. He was just vaccinated with a three-year rabies and his fecal, heartworm test and a chemistry panel run in March 2016 were all negative or normal. He lost a front tooth a few years ago when it fractured. His teeth tend to stain a bit but they do not have tartar build up.

This dog loves to run and is a tennis ball ADDICT. He will literally chase the tennis ball until he is beyond exhausted. He does tend to overheat, especially in summer and humid weather so I keep the ball playing to a minimum and in cooler weather. He will usually tell you when he is done. He loves to walk anywhere with his human and the other dogs. He is very good on the leash.

He is also excellent in a crate. He does like to bark when things are going on outside. He is not cat safe, likely not small dog safe and is not to be trusted off leash…he will chase anything that moves and will keep on going. He does not tend to jump up as his back also has some permanent issues from hard running. Due to this I don’t recommend running him next to the bike…walking and free running are better for him. NO dog parks.

What I am looking for in a home:

I am looking for a loving home that will make this boy the focus of their attention, give him plenty of exercise and interaction. He gets bored very easily and likes to be busy. I want a home that will love him dearly and take excellent care of him. I think he would do better with canine companions, either male or female. I think he will do well with men or women and hopefully more than one. No exposure to children but I think he would love them because they are BUSY!   I would prefer a home with a fenced yard. He is used to using a dog door as well but will run if not fenced in. I would prefer a home that either has a Whippet or has been exposed to Whippets.

Boy #2

This boy is black with white markings and 5 1/2 years old. He is a very tall whippet, almost three inches taller than most males, but elegant and graceful. Most people think he is a small greyhound. He is a friendly and very sensitive dog although he can be a bit aloof with strangers. He loves to be kissed and stroked and be near you wherever you are. He has been allowed on the couch and sleeps in bed (he likes to be under the sheets) or right next to the bed. He likes to be where I am. He has basic obedience training and is very, very good in a crate. He travels in a crate as well.  He has had no exposure to children and I am not sure how he would be with them.

He is currently being fed Eukanuba Adult Mini-chunks with some raw feeding at night. No medications or supplements other than monthly heartworm (Heartgard Plus) and flea/tick (Frontline Plus). He has his teeth brushed every week and his nails dremmeled to keep them short.  He is given treats (a lot) and rawhides to chew. He was just vaccinated with a three-year rabies and his fecal, heartworm test and a chemistry panel run in March 2016 were all negative or normal.

This is a boy who loves to run and run very fast. He is not even remotely cat safe and likely not small dog safe and is not to be trusted off leash…he will chase anything that moves. He likes to run through your legs when he is happy and will show front teeth (smile) and woo woo as well when all is good in his world. He also likes to mouth your hand, finger or wrist when happy. He does NOT and has never bitten. Opening his mouth is a happy thing!  He will chase balls and toys but not for long. He loves to play tug with other dogs and likes to go running next to the bike. He loves to walk anywhere with his human as well. He is very good on the leash and does not pull. He is scared of thunderstorms, but if he can be near you, he is fine, he does not freak out. No choke chains. NO off-lead as he will chase anything. NO dog parks. He does like to bark at things too and is a very good protection dog.

What I am looking for in a home:

I am looking for a loving home that will make this whippet the focus of their attention, love him dearly and take excellent care of him. He needs to be active daily, spend minimal time in a crate (not 8 to 12 hours) and would do better with at least one other dog, females would probably be better. He is used to multiple people and dogs in the house so I am not sure how he would do with just one owner. He has not had a lot of exposure to men. I would prefer a home with a fenced yard. He is used to using a dog door as well. I would prefer a home that either has a Whippet or has been exposed to Whippets.
